Candlelight Concerts coming to Durham, Sunderland and Newcastle

Across Durham, Newcastle and Sunderland, live events company Fever have launched a multitude of events in the North East that utilise the regions most picturesque and atmospheric locations. From Durham Cathedral, Sunderland’s Holy Trinity Church, the Discovery Museum, Newcastle’s Wood Hall and more.

Described as a multi-sensory musical experience Candlelight Concerts are musical performances held in stunning locations by candlelight. There is something for everyone, from tributes to pop artists like Ed Sheeran to stunning renditions of scores from Hans Zimmer and rock classics from Pink Floyd.

The concerts are performed by local ensembles such as Northern String Quartet, Aurora Strings and String Infusion. The programmes for each ticketed event are released ahead of time allowing audiences to see at what songs will be performed.

Here are the candlelight concerts available to attend across January and February in the North East.

In Durham there will be tribute to Coldplay at Durham Cathedral performed by Aurora Strings which will see popular songs like Fix You and Yellow on Thursday, January 25.

There are also plenty of concerts to see at Ushaw Historic House Chapels and Gardens with Valentine’s Day: Timeless Love Songs which will see performances of love songs like Can You Feel the Love Tonight, La Vie En Rose and more, performed by String Infusion on Friday, February 16.

On Friday, February 16 audience members have the opportunity to experience Hans Zimmer’s best works, which will see scores from his Academy Award winning soundtracks such as Dune, the Lion King and many more.

Saturday, February 24 will see two candlelight events in Durham with a tribute to Ed Sheeran where audiences can hear chart topping renditions of Sheeran’s works like A Team and Thinking Out Loud. As well as a tribute to Pink Floyd performing classics from the band such as Another Brick in the Wall and Wish You Were Here.

In Newcastle, Time Magazine’s person of the year, Taylor Swift will be given a tribute performance by String Infusion. Already proving to popular, this event will see Taylor songs from all different eras, from Anti-hero to Love story at The Common Room at Wood Hall on Westgate Road. With over 160 reviews on their website the event is available to attend Friday, January 12 and Saturday, February 10. 

Newcastle will also get the chance to enjoy Hans Zimmer’s mesmerising best works at the Discovery Museum Saturday, January 27 and Saturday, February 24 from Aurora Strings who will also perform the Valentine’s Day: Timeless Love Songs at The Common Room in Newcastle on Friday, February 16 and Saturday, February 17.

Also at the Discovery Museum – a tribute to Queen performed by Aurora Strings, which will see rock classics such as Bohemian Rhapsody and Somebody to Love on Saturday, February 24.

Sunderland will see similar performances in their region with a tribute to Coldplay, on Saturday, January 20 and a tribute to Queen at the Holy Trinity Church, Sunderland on Saturday, January 27 performed by Northern String Quartet.

Valentine’s Day: Timeless Love Songs will be at Sunderland Minister performed by Northern String Quartet who will also perform a tribute to Pink Floyd later that evening on Saturday, February 17.
