All Creatures Great and Small renewed for two more series as viewers rejoice

Inspired by the beloved works of Yorkshire vet and author James Herriot, the show follows the daily life and adventures at the Skeldale House veterinary practice in the Yorkshire Dales during the 1940s.

Its gentle storytelling, stunning scenery, and lovable cast have made it one of the most cherished series on British television.

The upcoming seventh and eighth series, alongside two new Christmas specials, will continue the show’s legacy as Channel 5’s most successful drama to date.

Since its debut, All Creatures Great and Small has captured hearts worldwide, drawing in up to 14 million viewers across its first five series.

Before filming begins on the next chapters, fans can look forward to this year’s Christmas special, a heartwarming celebration set around the end of the war, promising joy, hope, and a little romance.

This year’s episodes also introduced a new character, Charlotte Beauvoir, played by Gaia Wise, the daughter of Dame Emma Thompson, who quickly won over viewers as Tristan’s new love interest.

Returning favourites Nicholas Ralph (James Herriot), Rachel Shenton (Helen), Samuel West (Siegfried), Callum Woodhouse (Tristan), and Anna Madeley (Mrs Audrey Hall) will all reprise their roles.

Channel 5’s Commissioning Editor Greg Barnett said: “All Creatures Great and Small is a jewel in 5’s drama crown and continues to delight viewers year after year.

” Its warmth, humour and heart, set against the beauty of Yorkshire, have made it a firm audience favourite.

“We’re thrilled to extend its future with two more series, with many new stories still to tell and more unforgettable adventures ahead for our Skeldale family.”

Producers Melissa Gallant and Sharon Moran of Playground, the company behind the show, added: “We frequently receive letters from viewers about how the show has brought joy, comfort and relief in challenging times.

“Making television that has that effect, and is beloved around the world year after year, is the greatest privilege.

“We’re thrilled to be continuing the All Creatures journey with Channel 5, Masterpiece on PBS and All3Media International into series 7 and 8.”

As All Creatures Great and Small prepares to film again in the rolling green hills of Yorkshire, fans can rest assured that more tales of community, compassion, and countryside life are on the way.

The cast shared the news in a cheerful video on Channel 5’s official Facebook page, confirming that the Skeldale family isn’t going anywhere just yet.
